Application of Chitooligosaccharides in Aquatic Products

As a feed additive

Chitooligosaccharide (COS) is non-toxic, non-pyrogenic, non-polluted and non-residue, and is a green and environmentally friendly feed additive. Compared with other feed additives, COS also has the advantages of no drug resistance, no drug residues, and no damage and killing of beneficial bacteria. Its physical and chemical properties are stable, it is not decomposed in the gastrointestinal tract, and can be directly absorbed into the blood by animals to act on target cells, which can continuously and steadily improve the immunity of animals. Adding COS to aquatic feed can promote protein synthesis and cell activation, thereby improving the production performance of aquatic animals. The study found that the non-specific immune function of rainbow trout was significantly improved after adding 200 and 400 mg/kg COS to the feed. The addition of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg COS to the feed all improved the specific growth rate, weight gain rate and protein efficiency of rainbow trout. The feed coefficient is reduced, indicating that the addition of COS in the feed has a good promoting effect on the growth of rainbow trout.

As a biological preservative

COS and its derivatives have a wide range of bacteriostasis and strong antibacterial activity. It has abundant sources, simple preparation, obvious antibacterial effect, and its degradation products do not accumulate in the human body, and are non-toxic and non-toxic. Therefore, it is widely used in the preservation of aquatic products. Wang Xiujuan et al. (2008) found that the various indexes of the coating group were significantly better than those of the control group, and the 1.5% mass fraction COS had the best fresh-keeping effect; the coating effect with additives was more obvious. . This is because the mass fraction increases, the COS macromolecules are easy to approach and entangle each other into a network structure, and the formed gel has high strength, good elasticity, and high water retention rate, and it is not easy to be dehydrated.

As a heavy metal adsorbent

COS and its derivatives have good water solubility due to their low relative molecular weight, and contain a large number of hydroxyl and amino groups. They are good ligands for some metal ions. It can form stable complexes with some rare earth metals under certain conditions. This complex is soluble in water and has a good removal effect on heavy metals. Therefore, it is widely used in the adsorption and removal of heavy metals.

Cui Liqing et al. (2012) explored the effects of COS-Ce on the growth and cadmium content of turbot under cadmium stress and found that in the high-dose relief group, the survival rate of turbot was higher than that of the cadmium-exposed group, and the plumpness was significantly higher. In the cadmium-exposed group, the cadmium content in muscle decreased by 51.72%. In the middle-dose remission group, the cadmium content of turbot kidney, liver, muscle, gill and bone decreased by 28.31%, 26.73%, 25.86%, 21.88% and 11.43%, and the liver glutathione peroxidase ( The activity of GSH-Px) was significantly higher than that of the cadmium-exposed group. It shows that COS-Ce can inhibit the absorption of cadmium content in turbot tissue, and can increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes in the liver. This is because the free polar groups (-OH) and amine groups (-NH2) of COS can coordinate with metal ions.
